About  the Mill

The Mill and it's location are highly unique.  The Mill is located on the first dam of the first tributary to the Connecticut River which flows into Long Island Sound.  Since the Mill was built in the 1600s, it has been an inspiration to artists and a host to to a large amount of wildlife activity.  This section of our web site is dedicated to three primary subjects.  The first is the property itself and how it has changed over time; the second is about the different artists that have been inspired by the Mill and surrounding activities; and the third is the story from an ecological view point.

The Mill

Inspiration to Artists

Wildlife Activity

The Mill was first built as a Grist Mill in the 1600s.  It has experienced 400 years of changes, some planned and others not.

Although the Mill was first built as a business, it has also served as inspiration to artists for their work.

The Mill property is host to a unique and diverse collection of wildlife.
